1992年，苏联刚刚解体，新独立的亚美尼亚诞生不久，Sonia Balassanian与丈夫Edward Balassanian在埃里温创办了亚美尼亚当代实验艺术中心（ACCEA/NPAK）。原文写道，该机构“founded in 1992”，其使命是“introduction of international contemporary art in Armenia; as well as discovery and encouragement of Armenian contemporary art”。它后来成为南高加索唯一一个当代实验艺术中心，展示绘画、雕塑、装置、录像与表演艺术的前沿创作。
